Position: Shelter Support Staff
Supervisor: Shelter Support Manager, Program Director
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Kitsap Rescue Mission Shelter Support Staff are key members of the team responsible for general shelter oversight during their shift, assisting shelter guests with various needs, housekeeping of common areas, shelter unit turnovers, and a variety of record keeping and interpersonal tasks.
Kitsap Rescue mission staff adheres to all State and Federal mandates regarding shelter care and guest confidentiality and facilitates the safe operation of the shelter.
Responsible for providing clear, relevant, consistent documentation regarding guest updates, status, and concerns in the _Daily Shift Log_ during shift to support communication and care coordination between staff/shift changes.
A.
Coordinates with the Shelter Support Manager and Support Services Team to successfully onboard and exit shelter guests.
B.
Maintains cleanliness of shelter offices, common areas including shared office staff restrooms, and facility grounds.
C.
Responsible for guest unit turnovers to include bagging up of items left behind by guests and cleaning and preparing of rooms for incoming shelter guests.
D.
Maintains a consistently clean and orderly shelter.
E.
With support from Security, ensures that no unregistered guests are on the shelter premises.
F.
Communicates effectively and clearly about any concerns or problems that occur while on duty in Daily Shift Log and contacts Shelter Support manager when appropriate.
G.
Attends weekly all-staff meetings to share guest concerns and offer ideas and feedback regarding shelter processes, protocol and guidelines.
H.
Provides role modeling and emotional support to co-workers and guests, and ministers to guests seeking holistic and spiritual support when requested.
I.
Follows all safety protocol and contacts Shelter Program Manager in the case of emergency or critical incidents such as fire, evacuation, police intervention, 911/EMS, mental health, or medical emergency and completes written Incident Report.
J.
Works closely with the Security team throughout shift to share insights and concerns and to ensure safety of facility, staff and guests.
K.
Models respect and compassion to all guests, staff and volunteers providing a pro-active approach to problem solving.
L.
Required to be professional and exhibit emotional maturity at all times
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must support the organization's Statement of Faith.
Must have a High School diploma or GED and experience or interest in working with individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness.
Understands and adheres to state and federal confidentiality regulations including HIPAA.
Models “service to others”, professionalism, respect, emotional maturity, compassion and patience toward all peers, staff, volunteers and guests.
Supports and is sensitive to a work culture of inclusivity, equity and cultural diversity.
Must have the ability to cope well in a sometimes-stressful environment and not “buy into” the perceived crises of others.
Must have good literacy skills including the ability to gather, document, and report information clearly and to share effectively about the Kitsap Rescue Mission and its programs.
Must sign an Ethics and Standard of Conduct policy.
Must have a personal self-care routine that contributes to a professional and healthy work-culture, and which supports compassion, accountability, open communication and respect.
If recovering from a substance abuse disorder, must have a period of at least two years clean and sober.
