The Position
Port Townsend Paper Company currently has an opening for an Infrastructure Engineer.
This role reports directly to the Engineering Manager.
The position requires excellent mathematical, and analytical skills and engineering experience in an industrial environment.
To ensure success, the Infrastructure Engineer should display an investigative nature and must be accurate, commercially aware, and have great communication skills with a keen interest in ensuring the safety and physical integrity of the mill mechanical infrastructure.
The top candidates will have excellent project and budget management skills with significant knowledge of mill infrastructures, project management, construction processes, and legal regulations.

We use a blend of virgin and recycled fibers (Kraft and OCC pulp) to produce Kraft pulp, paper, containerboard, medium and market pulp.

Job Responsibilities Develops plans to monitor and report the condition of the mill mechanical infrastructure (roofs, buildings, docks, sewers, cranes, elevators, etc.
) Manages inspection of mill infrastructure.
Develops and leads projects to support the integrity of the mill infrastructure.
Liaise with professional staff such as architects and engineers.
Collaborates with contractors and project managers.
Manages construction of infrastructure repairs and upgrades.
Prepares and allocate budgets.
Tracks and reports on project progress.
Prepares reports, designs, and drawings.
Supports maintenance and operations by making calculations about roof and floor loading, wind and seismic loads, sewer flows and capacity, etc.
Provides technical advice on safe designs and construction.
Obtains planning and/or building regulations approval.
Monitors and inspects all work undertaken by contractors to ensure structural soundness.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Expert ability in mill Infrastructure maintenance and repairs.
Extensive experience in project management.
Advanced knowledge of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations.
Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
Good communication ability (both written and verbal) and ability to work with people from all areas of the mill in a team situation, particularly operations and maintenance personnel.
Ability to follow safety procedures and processes.
Ability to liaise with professionals from other disciplines.
Meticulous attention to detail with superb organizational skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Required Experience 5 years’ experience as a project or plant engineer in an industrial environment.
Experience working on docks, sewer systems, building structures and roofs, and other industrial infrastructure required.
Pulp and Paper experience is preferred.
Required Education Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering.
Washington State PE license is preferred, but not required.
Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This work will be based in an office setting with much time spent in the field doing the worked described in this job description.
The employee to work in and around a large industrial facility, including shorelines and docks, on roofs, and around sewers and wastewater treatment systems, inside paper machine buildings and anywhere there may be an infrastructure issue.
The employee is occasionally exposed to harsh outside weather, shop hazards such as loud noise, dust, and fumes.
Physically able to inspect all areas of an industrial facility.
Employment Terms Full-time, Exempt position Salary range: $140,000 to $170,000 DOE.
Excellent benefits package including medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance.
3 weeks paid vacation or more depending on experience.
Full-time employees receive 160 hours of sick leave upon hire and then earn eight hours of sick leave per month.
9 paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.
Retirement plan.
