Want to join something GREAT and make a difference?This position works under the guidance of the Habitat Conservation Plan, the Forest Practice Rules, the Policy for Sustainable Forests, the Sustainable Harvest, the Endangered Species Act, the Olympic Experimental State Forest Land Plan, all applicable collective bargaining agreements for the positions they supervise, and all other applicable laws, rules, regulations, and agency policies, procedures, and guidelines.
This position reports to the State Lands Assistant Region Manager and must interact with agency staff, the general public and other state, county, and federal agencies on a routine basis.
Work is assigned both in writing and verbally depending on the assignment.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Responsibilities: Plan, lead, organize, and manage the workload performed by the Coast District staff consisting of 16 FTEs including one Civil Engineer 3, three Natural Resource Specialist 3’s, nine Natural Resource Specialist 2’s, and three Civil Engineers 2s to ensure the annual Coast District timber sale cut of approximately 90 million board feet is successfully achieved.
Ensure quality reforestation and silvicultural oversight of LRM prescriptions for the District to meet division standards while respecting the environmental, economic, and social authorizing environments in which we operate.
Ensure all activities including, silviculture, timber sales preparation and compliance, roads, public use, leases, and any other activity that impacts trust lands in the Coast District are compliant with the Habitat Conservation Plan, the Forest Resource Plan, the Forestry Handbook, Watershed Analysis Prescriptions, the Forest Practice Rules and are consistent with the goals of the OESF.
Plan, lead, organize, and control the work performed by the District.
Assure appropriate and optimum use of the organization’s resources and enhance employees' effectiveness through timely appraisal and professional development opportunities.
Support effective communications throughout the organization.
Ensure Coast District staff resource allocations are appropriately managed as budgeted.
Skillfully and thoughtfully prepare a district budget each year to ensure district deliverables and assignments are successfully accomplished.
Maintain the highest standards of personal/professional and ethical conduct and support the State’s goals for a diverse workforce.
Support the staff of the Coast District by representing their interests, concerns, and issues at the regional and state levels.
Provide developmental opportunities and training that will enhance district staff's personal and professional growth in preparation for their professional career goals.
Mentor district staff and provide a positive working environment where people are respected and valued professionally.
Maintain and develop positive and effective supervisory relationships, with direct reports and remaining district staff, including completing evaluations, responding appropriately to disciplinary situations, representing and supporting district staff to resolve conflicts, and handling routine personnel issues.
Develop a team atmosphere both intra-district and inter-district by developing your role as manager and actively participating in helping each employee or work group set and achieve their goals.
Develop and foster collaborative partnerships with diverse internal and external stakeholders to find creative and innovative solutions to resolve complex conflicts.
Represent the Department’s interests when interacting with private operators, businesses, governmental officials, and the public where there is involvement in sensitive, complex issues affecting the District, Region or Agency.
With the implementation of the OESF Forest Land Plan this position will be a key member of the OESF management team providing innovation, insight, guidance and management of product sales business administration to implement the OESF.
This includes developing relationships with the University of Washington, Olympic Natural Resource Center (ONRC), researchers, scientists, and Division.
This position provides management, leadership and expert input toward the development of alternatives providing unique and innovative marketing, contract development and sales administration systems to meet needs for all phases of the OESF and other projects identified by the OESF.
This includes but is not limited to new marketing and advertisement concepts/processes, new contract development, all types of contract administration, silvicultural and logging system compliance, marketing, billing and payment systems and the pre-sales, SEPA and FP process to support OESF implementation, monitoring and research proposals, adaptive management, silviculture, landscape planning, communication, outreach, and information management programs.
