Summary
Employee performs a variety of responsible administrative and programmatic duties to relieve the Sheriff and the departments Section Head staff members of technical as well as general administrative details.
Employee is responsible for the continuing development, establishment, implementation and enhancement of community-oriented policing (COP) programs sponsored by the Department.
Employee will assist the Department Head in developing and implementing annual and long-range departmental administrative programs and procedures to accomplish departmental goals and policies.
Employee is responsible to recruit, coordinate and supervise the activities of volunteers involved in the various programs.
Employee is responsible to assist the public in general liaison and community relations functions of the Department.
Employee handles independent short- and long-term projects requiring organizational, analytical and research skills.
Employee is required to develop conclusions based on research and formulate complex reports for the Department.
Depending on area of assignment, may perform advanced or legal administrative duties and will be expected to handle a broad scope of proprietary and private information, including matters related to labor relations and personnel.
As assigned, may also serve on commissions, committees, or boards and may represent the Sheriff’s Office at meetings.
Employee is provided general guidelines by the Undersheriff but is expected to work with minimal supervision and exercise judgment in carrying out duties.
Education/Training
Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, public administration, or a related field preferred.
Experience
Five (5) years of full time administrative or office work experience.
Office management experience is highly desirable.
Demonstrated competence in statistical analysis, contract coordination, policy development and implementation.
Demonstrated competence in managing one’s own workload with a minimum of supervision and in community and interagency relations.
Written and verbal communication skills to prepare documentation, reports and statistical information required.
Written and verbal communication skills to prepare and instruct curriculum required.
Ability to interpret and make decisions in accordance with laws, regulations and policies.
Required computer word processing, spread sheet, and data base skills for entry and analysis of program information.
Special Requirements
Successfully pass all testing and examinations which measure ability to perform essential job functions.
These tests may include but are not limited to physical agility, written, oral, skill, polygraph, psychological, medical, and a comprehensive, in-depth background examination that shows no criminal activity that could directly impact ability to perform the job; ability to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
