Goats are herd animals and MUST live in a group of at least 2.
We recommend groups of 3.
While they are excellent at keeping brush under control, they are not going to completely clear vines or thick woody vegetation.
They will eat the leaves.
They do not eat grass very well.
Goats also need supplemental vitamins/minerals and hay in winter, as well as adequate shelter in rain/cold.
Female Dairy goats must give birth at least once to produce milk.
A dairy goat, fed a high quality diet, and of strong genetics for production (as proven by DHIA milk records by her dam and sires dam) can continue to produce as long as you keep milking her regularly (daily) without the need for repeat breeding annually.
2 year lactations are not unusual, and longer lactations are achieved with superior animals.
We have been breeding Nubian and Nigerian dwarf goats with the Urban Acres herd name for 18 years within emphasis on a willing quiet temperament, sound structure to longevity and show, and persistent lactations.
Accolades include 2 reserve national champions, multiple national class winners and top 5 placings, multiple premiere breeders for both breeds at Washington state fair and numerous California fairs.
Despite our success in the competition arena, our focus is to produce goats that are a joy to own as a family.
The show wins are just pretty ribbons, the goats are what is important.
