**All of the photos are my own, of our property/animals/projects.
A lot of people are trying out homesteading/farming for the first time, and my family is often asked to look over their property and give advice to help them get started.
It had never really occurred to me how many factors we take into account with every decision made around the farm, but there are a LOT, and they all come from experience.
So if you are in need of some experienced eyes to look around your property and give personalized advice based on your specific resources and desires, we can drive to you! Our goal as a family, is to save local new-coming farmers the thousands of dollars/hours in trial and error mistakes that we've already experienced, thereby encouraging a sustainable transition to the homesteading lifestyle.
About Us: Since 1986 my family has lived off-grid, and we do nearly everything on our own.
We build our own outbuildings, maintain our own solar setup, install our own plumbing, and have an extensive garden and orchard.
We preserve our foods by dehydrating, canning, and making into wines.
We make cheese, soap, herbal tinctures, etc.
We know most of the plants in the area, both edible and poisonous.
We've also raised nearly every kind of livestock you can think of.
Dairy and meat goats, dairy and meat cattle, hair and wool sheep, egg-laying and meat chickens, ducks and rabbits, large and small-breed pigs, livestock guardian dogs (LGDs), and barn cats.
Point being, if you are trying to decide: What kind of livestock would work well on your land.
What kind of fencing will work best for your topography and animals.
Where to put a barn and which direction to face the doors.
How to build low cost sheds and barns, and what things you should or shouldn't skimp on.
How to build low-waste feeders and easy-use gates.
How to plan pasture maintenance and rotational grazing.
Predator/vermin safety and control.
.
.
I certainly don't know everything, but I can give advice.
And if you're trying to decide: Where to put a garden.
What kind of plants grow well in this area.
Tried and true low-cost methods of fertilizing and amending poor soil.
Low-cost homemade trellises, greenhouses and cloches.
How to prune fruit trees and berry bushes.
Vermin control in the garden.
Beekeeping basics.
Those are my mother's specialty and I can bring her along as well.
We can also teach you how to: Trim goat\sheep hooves.
Disbud\neuter\draw blood on goats.
Give copper boluses, oral drenches, and injections.
PRICES: Travel fee will be determined based on your location and whether I can combine a consultation with some other errand.
We are located between Quilcene and Chimacum, and we can travel anywhere in Western Washington.
If driving more than 15 minutes from home, we will require the travel fee ahead of time.
Just Mom or I - $40 per hour Mom and I together - $70 per hour **We've done about a dozen consultations so far, and they usually take 45-90 minutes.
If you would like to meet us before setting up an appointment, you are completely welcome to visit our farm and we will give you a quick tour.
