Description from Planting Justice nursery:
"An amazing green tree collard variety that was propagated originally from a very hardy, unirrigated volunteer collard seedling at Merritt Community College in Oakland, Ca.
Merritt tree Collards are a green, perennial brassica plant hardy to at least 20°and grow on average 4-10 feet high with a strong stout compact trunk and are more compact and dense than Purple Tree Collards.
Leaves can grow to over 2ft in length.
The tree collard may begin to flower in year 2 or 3 (or sometimes the 1st year), but they will keep going after flowering is finished.
Easily propagated by cuttings.
Plant at least 3 ft apart.
"
I especially love this variety because it flowers reliably each spring and makes tasty kale "broccoli".
