EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
BASIC FUNCTION: Operate school bus under all types of weather conditions including but not limited to fog, rain, hail, sleet, snow and ice.
Transport students and other authorized persons safely and efficiently on regular “to and from” school routes, field trips, extra-curricular and/or special activity trips as authorized by the school district officials.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, students and community groups.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
WORKING CONDITIONS: Indoor and outdoor environment; regular exposure to all types of weather conditions.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: As per WAC 180-20-101 – Minimum Qualification of School Bus Drivers… “must be able to move from a seated position in a sixty-five passenger school bus, or the largest bus the driver will be operating, to the emergency door, open the emergency door, and exit the bus through the emergency door, all within twenty-five seconds.
” Must be able to re-enter through emergency exists under 45” high without assistance in 60 seconds or less.
Employees must pass Commercial Driver Fitness Determination exam performed by District contracted physician.
The District will pay the basic fitness exam to the district contracted physician every 24 months.
Must demonstrate to the Transportation Supervisor the ability to remove chains from bus storage and install them in thirty minutes or less on two rear tires of a 65 passenger or larger capacity bus without assistance.
(required you demonstrate this to the Transportation Supervisor within ten workdays of passing the DOT Physical) Must have sufficient strength and agility to move about in an overturned bus as required to provide assistant to students evacuating the bus.
Possess sufficient strength and agility to assist ill or physically impaired students to enter or exit a school bus through the passenger service door.
Hearing capability sufficient to detect and distinguish traffic sounds occurring from any direction outside the bus, such as horns, whistles, sirens, trains, bells, etc.
, from a distance which will allow adequate time for defensive or evasive action to avoid a hazardous situation.
Vision: 20/40 in best eye, with our without correction, approximately 140 degrees peripheral vision, and depth perception adequate to reasonably determine distance and closing rate of other moving vehicles from a stationary or moving school bus.
Eye coordination to avoid diplopia, color vision must be adequate to distinguish the colors of red, green and amber of traffic lights.
Dexterity of hands, fingers and feet to operate all hand and foot controls installed in a school bus as required by Washington State School Bus Specifications.
HAZARDS: Driving on hazardous roads.
Transporting students without immediate assistance in the event of unruly students.

) Establish and maintain a climate of concern and respect for all students.
Drive a school bus on scheduled route, both within and outside the school district boundaries.
Inspect and clean school bus and related equipment as required by the state and school district.
Refuel in accordance with department procedure or as otherwise needed.
Maintain control of student passengers as related to safety.
Report unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of any person other than the driver.
Complete forms, records and reports as required by the state or local school district policies accurately and legibly.
Operate a school bus in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington and policies promulgated by the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
Perform required operational and safety inspections of the school bus and all related equipment.
Perform basic first aid as appropriate, which may include CPR.
Report immediately and mechanical defects and safety hazards to the Transportation Supervisor.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job-related activities.
